When Kevin Florindo came over to give me an estimate for a new Trex deck, he took the time with me that the 2 other contractors did not. He walked me through the process and showed me the racks of sample Trex in his truck. He honestly told me it would be a two months’ wait for the work to get done.
He called me twice before my date to let me know my status and when the job would begin. It took 2.5 days to complete (rain delay on the first day) and was finished on day 3, as promised. And they cleaned up the mess!
Mike and his crew (Tom, Kevin, James and Vinny) arrived at 7:30am and worked. And worked. And worked. I have never met such a professional group of men in the 25 years I have been in my home. (And that is saying quite a bit as my home is nearly 90 years old and I have had a few contractors over the years). They went above and beyond, were patient with my questions, and seemed to work as if they were building it all for themselves: such real pride in the craftsmanship.
On day 3, Mike actually constructed a gate. I had assumed I was getting a pre-made Trex gate but he built it. Truly amazing. And lovely.
I imagine the work done at my home (removal of wood deck, then installation of Trex deck, side step and gate) was not the largest job they’ve done but it was not an easy job. They handled it all and almost made it look easy.

We had our front porch and back deck (and all gates, trim, lattice, railings etc.) replaced with fabulous maintenance free – but natural looking products. Kevin is incredibly helpful at all stages of the project – scoping it out, designing, choosing colors, materials, etc. Kevin and his team are perfectionists – and they recognize and address any and all eventualities (i.e., reinforcement to underlying structure that is needed, blending of front to back etc.) without drama or delay. He and his team personify what it means to be professional. They arrive when they say they will arrive, they work to get the job done (no lapses in schedule/reschedulings etc.). And Kevin was extremely accommodating in terms of getting everything accomplished in time for a family gathering/holiday. Absolutely fabulous. I recommend them without hesitation. Do it!

From our very first meeting we instantly knew that BlueStar Carpentry was the company we wanted to build our deck. Kevin came to our house on time and well prepared. He gave us lots of ideas and had a great portfolio of completed jobs. He showed us all our material options and detailed the differences. He thoroughly explained how everything would be built from the cemented posts, to the wood frame, to the trex finish. Once we settled on a design we were quoted a very fair and competitive price for our custom deck. The job was able to be started sooner than expected which we were thrilled about. His extremely polite and respectful crew showed up on time every day. The worked very efficiently and very neatly – each day leaving the site immaculate. You could tell they have worked together for a while – like a well oiled machine. Mid installation I decided to change my design – no one got flustered- in fact they were extremely flexible and accommodating. The job was completed ahead of schedule and we couldn’t be more pleased. Kevin was so awesome to deal with – always so positive friendly and honest. Highly recommend BlueStar to anyone in need of a deck.
