From the first meeting with Kevin we felt we had the best company on the job. He not only took the time to discuss options when he first came to our house (when it was convenient for us) but measured and drew an entire sketch of what we wanted; part of which we didn't know we wanted until he suggested it - like using wide ledge stairs to come out from the house proper. And we hadn't even signed on with them at that point. We ended up starting the project some time later, as we like to plan / get start dates set early, but Kevin touched base in-between so we knew everything was in order. During that time we also went to their showroom where we could see large examples of each Trex color, which was a great asset because we actually didn't end up going with the one we thought we would from smaller samples. Demo was as perhaps always more trouble than expected (we had a concrete patio under our old deck we never even knew was there!) but Kevin and the entire demo crew were great, got the job done in almost the same amount of time, and even worked through some pretty terrible rain. I really give them a lot of credit. We then had a pool crew doing that part of our refurbish so there was a gap while they got their work done, but Kevin and then Chris (our deck team's lead) stayed in touch throughout . Kevin even returned at our convenienc e just before framing started to layout the entire final shape in bright pink string - which also allowed some fine tuning around the edges. It was something you might not expect to be on offer but really let us see exactly what our deck would be like, and feel like everything was coming together as planned. Chris and his framing/ decking team were phenomenal as well - each day we saw so much progress, and Chris kept in touch any time there was a question or issue. Our design included a custom style bench, deck box, and lampposts (reusing our existing fixtures), and we ended up needing to add a small step as well at one side, and each of these elements turned out just as we'd hoped. We really couldn't have been happier with the results. Since completion last spring someone from Blue Star has also been back to make sure our pool cover anchors were solidly installed in the fall, and to replace screws that came with deck box hardware that turned out not to be weatherpro of! We feel like we can pretty much always call them if we have a concern or need regarding our deck and are met with a warm welcome, not as a bothersome customer but a still valued one. It is like we're part of the Blue Star family now and that's a really great thing to find when you're looking to complete such a large home project, and one that may need little things fixed or just changed in the future. We have now also experience d Trex in all seasons and are so happy with it - it is not fire-hot in the summer, rain beads on its surface, snow/ ice slides right off with a push and the spacing allows for great melting pathways right through. It is also beautiful in how it looks like natural wood, and seamlessly works with the pool in terms of larger design. We are SO glad we made this choice. We would highly recommend both Blue Star Carpentry, and Trex, to anyone looking to design and build a new deck. We expect to be thoroughly enjoying ours for years to come.
